| So here I am, sitting in the middle of the floor in the LA house, which is now all but empty. It was purchased and the new owner wants to move in soon and since we're leaving on the day after tomorrow to do some promo back east, we had to empty the house before we leave. The good news is that after a long day, Sean and I packed up every bit of clothing and furniture, every CD and DVD that was in a stack by the giant bean bag, or on the "coffee table" or on the floor next to the 10 inch TV...every plate and spoon, spatula, magnet and candle. ..all the boxes and duffle bags are filled and packed away, with the exception of a couple I'm taking back down to San Diego. ...the bad news is that I can't find my cell phone. I'd call it to try and hear the ring, but the house phone is in a box somewhere in one of the gigantic crates in our driveway. Sean and I played at Largo tonight. It will be our last Watkins Family Hour until November 22 when we'll be off the road for Nickel Creek's version of Thanksgiving Vacation. Our friend Teitur, who we saw just a few days ago in London, is in LA so we got to learn some of his new songs, and then Benmont Tench stopped by again and graced us with his musicianship. I had been in such a relentless packing mode all day, move move move! find a place for everything, load load load! That when it came to the show, I was a little loopy. I think I was simply not yet ready to be sensitive to music so i kept counting things off too fast and sort of subconsciously feeling like the song should have more volume. more power. more pushing it forward. When Benmont came up, it was made perfectly clear that I was just way off base, in terms of being sensitive to what each song at least could have. Ben says only nice things, but just him being up there opened my eyes a liittle to how I'd not been listening right. Still feeling a little loopy. I'm going to try washing my face and going to sleep. see if i can see my phone in the day light..as we packed all our lamps away already... Oh well, this would be the ultimate excuse to get a new phone. ...wanted one anyway. Maybe I'll see about getting a fancy one!
