April 7, 2004 San Diego We are now about halfway through our tour. On Saturday we played in Alabama, and since then, the bus has been driving out to San Diego for the next show, which is tomorrow. Instead of a four day bus ride, everyone flew home and we'll all meet up at soundcheck at UCSD. The four days have been a nice little breath before beginning the second leg of this little six week tour. From here we go north, then slightly east, then south, and further eastward again. This morning was the kind that made you want to wave hello to everyone you see. I read my book and sat in the sun, got a little color on my pale, pale legs and then drove home in traffic. But it wasn't so bad because the day was beautiful. Just now, I got back from a friend's house. He lives out towards Temecula, up some windy roads, in the middle of nowhere. I'd never been out to that part of the county before, actually I don't even know which county it's in, and it was too dark to see much, but I could smell the Sage - it's in full bloom. With the floor heat on and windows down - taking in the Purple Sage and Spanish Lavender was intoxicating. You're lungs cannot take in enough of it. Like Sean said, you don't want to exhale. It's always nice to play hometown show. I like driving
my car to the venue and then getting to wake up in my own bed the next
morning. I'll introduce my home friends to my road friends (Joey and Fielding
and Mark Schatz) and our crew - who I love. I wish our bus and band and crew were going to be around here for longer. I want to show them around my town! |
