Sara's Album Acclaimed

Sara Watkins, produced by John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, features 8 self-penned songs and a handful of haunting covers.

John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and Sara Watkins teamed up to record Sara's debut album. This unlikely-sounding pairing is actually less improbable than it sounds. Jones, bass player with Led Zeppelin and a mandolin enthusiast, participated in the Mutual Admiration Society tour with Nickel Creek and Glen Phillips in 2004. Friendships were formed, and when Sara asked if Jones would produce her new project, he agreed. More than that, he also plays bass on several tracks.

The new project is an exciting one as Sara steps out with a mix of self-penned songs and covers, and in addition to Jones, pulls in other guests including Gillian Welch and David Rawlings and her brother (and former band-mate in Nickel Creek) Sean Watkins.

"The kind of voice that gives your goosebumps the shivers," writes the BBC.

'Warm, close-knit harmonies learnt from the bluegrass masters. Brilliant!' --Mojo

'Tracks such as the swing of Any Old Time are great fun, but it's at the other end of the spectrum - the stark devotion of Give Me Jesus or spooky, haunting Bygones - where she really excels.'-- Q * * * *
